Girls Varsity Swimming vs. Holt Senior HS School

In the biggest showdown of the 2018 CAAC Blue season the Holt Rams & Grand Ledge Comets both put their undefeated records on the line Tuesday evening at Grand Ledge Natatorium. In the end the Comets were able to prevail with an unwavering rush of strong swims & dives, 117-69. 

The highlights came early & often for the hosting Comets as the team of senior Isabel Lee, junior Grace Weston, junior Dani Ries & freshman Alyssa Rainsberger claimed a narrow victory in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:54.53 to the Rams time of 1:55.61. 

The 200 Freestyle saw the trio of junior Lola Mull, Rainsberger & freshman Allie Diller combine to finish 1-3-4 places with Mull taking the win in 1:55.43. The 200 IM was more of the same with Weston, sophomore Nicole Stensen & Lee placing 1-3-4 with Weston taking the victory in 2:12.98. 

Senior Abby Ford raced to a lifetime best time of 25.15 and a 2nd place finish in the 50 Freestyle. The diving event provided some highlights as well as freshman Jade Friedlis placed 2nd with senior Maggie Mullins logging her best score of the season and placed 4th at 149.10 points. 

The 100 Butterfly was a major turning point in the meet as Mull sprinted to a season best time of 59.34 and Ries clocked her best time at 1:02.71 as the pair combined to finish 1-2. The 100 Free continued to gain momentum for the Comets as Ford & Rainsberger pulled off another 1-2 finish and sophomore Olivia Vanderlaan swam to her first time under the 1:00 barrier at 59.60 to place 4th. 

The 500 Freestyle saw Stensen, Diller & junior Chloe Willobee all register fantastic swims and secure 2-3-4 on the finish list. The 200 Freestyle Relay featured a strong performance as the team of Ford, Ries, Rainsberger & Mull game from behind to secure the win in 1:42.81. Isabel Lee returned in the 100 Back to place 2nd in a season best time of 1:05.73. Senior Andrea Mueller-Hayes swam to her season best time and a 5th place finish of 1:11.40. 

Grace Weston provided the highlight of the night as she blasted her way to a season best and new pool record of 1:06.73 to take the win in the 100 Breaststroke. Senior teammate Cameron Magee placed 3rd with a new best time of 1:14.05 & senior Anah Stahelin Hs a best time and 5th place finish in 1:25.01. 

The final event of the evening saw the Comets cement the victory with a 1-2 finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The A relay team of Ford, Mull, Stensen & Weston took home 1st while the team of junior Sam Usher, sophomore Amelia Hofmeister, Lee & Vanderlaan came away with the runner up spot for the Comets. Not to be outdone the C Relay team of junior Kamie Schulze, senior Elena Clemares-Sierra, junior Jordyn Haywood & sophomore Reese Carlson brought home 4th place in the relay. 

With the win the team has all but assured themselves of 1/2 the CAAC Blue crown with a showdown with the Haslett Vikings coming up next Thursday for Senior Night at GL Natatorium at 6pm.
