Girls Varsity Swimming vs. East Lansing HS School

The Grand Ledge Varsity Swimming & Diving team hit the road & pushed its record to 4-0 on Thursday evening vs a strong squad from East Lansing.
The Comets were led by a variety of swimmers in what amounted to a team victory, 115-71 over the hosting Trojans.
The first event of the evening, the 200 Medley Relay, was captured by the Grand Ledge team of sophomore Nicole Stensen, seniors Isabel Lee & Andrea Mueller-Hayes & sophomore Olivia Vanderlaan in 2:09.93. Senior Cameron Magee followed up that relay performance with a convincing win in the 200 Freestyle in a personal best time of 2:10.25. Fellow senior Anah Stahelin reinforced Magee’s win with a new best time of 2:20.91 and a 2nd place finish.
In the 200 IM junior Dani Ries placed 2nd while freshman Allie Diller placed 4th with a new season best time of 2:46.88. In the 50 Freestyle sophomore Amelia Hofmeister fought off illness earlier in the week to claim 1st in 28.75. The Diving event saw freshman Jade Friedlis continue her impressive freshman campaign as she placed 1st with 177.05 points. Sophomore Katie Schlagel & senior Maggie Mullins also contributed to the team’s final score as they placed 3rd & 5th respectively.
In the 100 Butterfly sophomore standout Nicole Stensen was back in action this time swimming to her first ever varsity win in this event and in a new best time of 1:10.52. The 100 Freestyle saw junior Chloe Willobee enter the winners circle for the first time this season as she claimed the event with a time of 1:05.48.
The 500 Freestyle was the scene of a new best time & Division 1 State qualifying effort from junior Grace Weston in 5:17.61. Sophomore Reese Carlson placed 3rd with a new best time of 6:27.97. The Comet 200 Freestyle Relay pulled away late to claim a narrow victory in 1:57.50. The team was made up of Stahelin, Willobee, Diller & Hofmeister.
Freshman Alyssa Rainsberger swam to the top spot on the podium in the 100 Backstroke with a new best time of 1:10.01. In the 100 Breaststroke junior Dani Ries & senior Isabel Lee teamed to placed 1st & 2nd in the final individual event of the evening.
The final relay of the night was the 400 Freestyle Relay and that was captured by the Grand Ledge team of Stahelin, Stensen, junior Jordan Haywood & senior Cameron Magee in 4:06.84.
The team has a bye week next before a big showdown with fellow CAAC Blue unbeaten, the Holt Rams on Tuesday October 9th.
