Announcements and Important Events
Coach Schellhammer and the Varsity Boys basketball team kicked off the team's annual "Basketball and Books" program earlier this month.
Members of the Comet varsity boys hoop team traveled to district elementary schools to read to students. The basketball program hopes this will encourage our future Comets academically as well as athletically. Visiting the elementary classrooms is now a very important tradition for GLHS basketball and one that the students and teachers look forward to each year.
The program was started by former coach Scott Lewis and GL teacher Katie Davis. This year, first year varsity coach Travis Schellhammer and Kindergarten teacher Katie Gregory have continued the tradition, with Mrs. Gregory stepping in this season while Mrs. Davis is away on maternity leave.
The coaching staff along with the teachers hope this is a great opportunity to increase reading motivation and demonstrate reading fluency for the elementary students. Ultimately it sends a valuable message that students need to work hard in the classroom as well as on the court.
