The boys brought home victory at Greater Lansing Cross Country Meet on Saturday, October 11th for the first time since 2003, decisively defeating a ranked Alma team for the third time this season. The boys perfectly executed the race plan, avoiding the temptation to chase the competition and instead patiently waiting in the middle of the pack for the 1st mile; this led up to an opportunity to strike from behind and claim victory in the 2nd and 3rd miles of the race. We came through the first mile with 89 points in 2nd place behind Alma's 62, but over the remainder of the race we executed flawlessly in order to finish with 62 points ahead of Alma's 96 (the lowest score in Cross Country wins, like in Golf!). These boys bought in to and followed through with the plan, and it led them to success! Rylen Richey led the team off with a fifth place finish, followed by Caelan Marsh in 10th place, Ben Rottier in 13th, Alex McKennon in 14th, Nolan Lounds in 20th, Lincoln Morden in 67th, and Micah Couser in 71st. This earned the Comets a score of 62 points, which is the best score for any team at this meet in at least 10 years. Caelan Marsh and Alex McKennon ran lifetime Personal Record times in their pursuit of victory this week. Our top 5 runners finished in an incredibly tight 27 second spread, with our 5th runner finishing ahead of Alma's 3rd. Final Scores for the Top 7 teams were: 1. Grand Ledge-63 2. Alma-96 3. Lansing Catholic-149 4. Okemos-162 5. Howell-182 6. East Lansing-198 7. DeWitt-214 This Thursday, October 16th, our JV and Varsity squads will return to Ledge Meadows Golf Course in pursuit of a CAAC Blue Conference Championship title, before we move into the final week of the regular season.
