MHSAA Track and Field Finals Recap

By Steve Baker | Jun 1, 2026 7:45 AM

The MHSAA State Finals for Track and Field were May 30th at Rockford High School. Here are some incredible highlights from our GLHS Comet Athletes! We had 22 total athletes qualify for the state finals. For the Boys, Grand Ledge finished in 11th place in Division 1 with a score of 16 points. Jackson Shaltry earned All-State Honors in both the Shot Put (7th place) and Discus (Runner-Up) in a very competitive throws field. This may be the best ever combined finish for a thrower from Grand Ledge at the State Finals. Additionally, our Boys 4x100m Relay (Kingston Nixon, Levi Yeah, Griffin Hamilton, and Anthony Baker) finished with All-State Honors in 3rd place with a blazing time of 41.77, only three one-thousandths of a second behind the runners-up from Novi. They are #2 all-time in school history, and they also sit in the Top 100 best high school 4x100 teams in the history of the state of Michigan. For the Girls, the Comets finished in 5th place in Division 1 with a score of 25 points (this ties the best finish in school history!). Hailey Ellis, our school record holder in the discus, earned All State honors with a 4th place finish in the discus. Additionally, Katie Blue had a historic day. She cleared 14'0' in the Pole Vault, setting a new MHSAA State Finals Meet Record, breaking her own Outdoor State Record, tying for a #2 ranking for High School Pole Vault in the entire country, and winning the State Championship in the Pole Vault! Additionally, Katie was seeded #10 in the 300m Hurdles coming into the meet, but she overcame this seed time to win the State Championship in the 300m Hurdles from a slower heat, breaking Tori Schiller's 15 year-old school record in the process! It was announced today that Katie has been named Ms. Track and Field (Most Outstanding Female Track and Field Athlete!!) by the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association for her incredible achievements as an athlete, not only this weekend but across her four years. Katie is Grand Ledge's second Ms. Track and Field Winner (Tori Schiller was the first), and we believe that we may be one of the only schools in the state to have had 2 of our athletes receive this award. We are incredibly proud of Katie's hard work and dedication to improving herself and serving the program. Across the board, this has been one of the best seasons in history for the Track and Field program, and we are very grateful for your support. Behind only East Kentwood and Oak Park, our Boys and Girls teams had the combined 3rd highest program finish at the MHSAA State Finals, our kids brought home double conference titles, and our kids were one of the only programs in the state to bring home both Boys and Girls MHSAA Regional titles in the same season. Congratulations to all our student athltes and our entire Comet track and field coaching staff.
