In the third quarter Grand Ledge began to pull ahead with a lead of 45-39. This quarter highlighted the attention to detail such as, boxing out and taking care of the basketball. Scott Lewis said, "When we can limit our mistakes, we get more opportunities, even when we don't get the shots to fall or the bounces to go our way." After a few close encounter on the final possessions of the game, Steph Hall was able to seal the game at the free throw line and ultimately helped the Comets to their first road win, 59-56. Will Jerzak lead the way with 16 points followed by Lewis with 13 and Houghton with 12.
"It wasn’t pretty but any time you can go on the road in this conference and get a win it is a great day. Especially coming out of break and having 2 weeks off. We turned it over too much and didn’t rebound well but we found a way to win in spite of that and that is a sign of our team coming together and becoming a team. We executed sets when we needed to and we hit big time free throws down the stretch. We had a couple guys out and our reinforcements like Owen Adams that stepped up big time. Credit to Everett for fighting to the end.
As Grand Ledge improves to 5-3 on the season they will now face the East Lansing Trojans in Grand Ledge this friday at 6 pm.
As always, Go Comets!
