Grand Ledge Varsity Gymnastics was represented at the MHSAA State Individual Finals meet by Head coach Duane Haring and sophomore gymnast, Lizzie Maurer. They traveled to Rockford High School to participate in the event on March 9, 2019.
Gymnasts advanced individually to competition at the State meet by qualifying at the Regional meet held on March 2, 2019. Competitors who placed in the top 8 on an individual event and/or top 6 in the All Around were invited to compete at the State level.
Lizzie Maurer competed in Division 1 on Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor and in the All Around. Maurer placed 4th in the All Around with a final score of 36.375. Individual event placements were 2nd on Floor with a 9.4, 6th on beam with a 9.275 and 10th on Vault and Bars with scores of 8.95 and 8.75, respectively.
At the event each coach is able to select one gymnast from their team to receive a ‘Good Sportsmanship’ award. Coach Haring selected freshman Amina Vakili. He wanted to recognize her for her perseverance through the season despite personal loss and injury.
