Lizzie Mauer is All-State After Impressive Performance at MHSAA State Gymnastics Finals

Grand Ledge Varsity Gymnastics was represented at the MHSAA State Individual Finals meet by Head coach Duane Haring and sophomore gymnast, Lizzie Maurer.  They traveled to Rockford High School to participate in the event on March 9, 2019.

Gymnasts advanced individually to competition at the State meet by qualifying at the Regional meet held on March 2, 2019.  Competitors who placed in the top 8 on an individual event and/or top 6 in the All Around were invited to compete at the State level.

Lizzie Maurer competed in Division 1 on Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor and in the All Around.  Maurer placed 4th in the All Around with a final score of 36.375. Individual event placements were 2nd on Floor with a 9.4, 6th on beam with a 9.275 and 10th on Vault and Bars with scores of 8.95 and 8.75, respectively.

At the event each coach is able to select one gymnast from their team to receive a ‘Good Sportsmanship’ award.  Coach Haring selected freshman Amina Vakili.  He wanted to recognize her for her perseverance through the season despite personal loss and injury.

Additionally, Grand Ledge High School varsity gymnastics coach Duane Haring was inducted into the Michigan High School Gymnasts Coaches Judges Association Hall of Fame at the culmination of the State Finals meet.

Coach Haring has been leading Grand Ledge gymnastics for 14 years and during that time has coached his team to 13 CAAC championships, 13 State Meet appearances, and 8 Regional wins.  He has had 48 individual state champion gymnasts and 3 state runners up.

Grand Ledge Gymnastics holds the state record for the most team championships, all under Coach Haring’s tutelage, earning the top placement in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Grand Ledge holds the record for the highest team score posted at a state meet with a 150.825 in 2009 and a 150.225 in 2010.  Coach also holds a streak of 108 consecutive wins.
